Toyota has unveiled the Toyota Fortuner MHEV, equipped with 48V mild hybrid technology and an electric motor generator coupled to its 2.8L diesel engine. This setup, also found in the global-spec Hilux lifestyle pickup truck, delivers a combined power and torque output of 201bhp and 500Nm respectively, with the mild hybrid technology providing a power boost of 16bhp and 42Nm.
Specifications
The company claims that the MHEV system has no impact on the vehicle’s off-road and towing capabilities, enhancing torque assist, improving regenerative braking, and resulting in smoother start/stop functions. Additionally, Toyota states that this setup increases the Fortuner’s fuel efficiency by up to 5% compared to its diesel-only variant. Both 2WD and 4WD drivetrains are offered with the Toyota Fortuner MHEV, paired with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Features
The South Africa-spec Toyota Fortuner MHEV boasts a 360-degree camera and Toyota Safety Suite ADAS. This ADAS technology includes lane departure alert, pre-collision system, lane tracing assist, dynamic radar cruise control, road sign assist, automatic high beams, and proactive driving assist features.
Next Generation Toyota Fortuner in India
With a generation change expected towards the end of this year, the new model of the Fortuner SUV is likely to debut in India in early 2025. Based on the brand’s TNGA-F platform, the new Toyota Fortuner will feature a redesigned grille with vertical intake, updated headlights, and bumper housing square-shaped fog lamps. The SUV may also sport new alloy wheels, updated taillamps, and a revised rear bumper.
