Blue Origin: An Indian reached space after 40 years, record registered in the name of this entrepreneur

Space has emerged as a new field of competition between the world’s top entrepreneurs and the richest people. In the past years, companies of billionaires like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson have intensified the competition for space. Meanwhile, Bezos’s space company Blue Origin has completed a new mission. The special thing about this mission is its Indian connection.

This is why the mission became important

The New Shepherd-25 or NS-25 mission of Jeff Bezos’ company Blue Origin was completed on Sunday, May 19. This mission was very special for Bezos and his company, because they had faced disappointment about 2 years ago, when the rocket suffered a malfunction in September 2022. After that accident, Jeff Bezos’s company had to wait an additional two years to make the 25th space flight with humans.

This record is in the name of Gopichand

This 7th flight of Blue Origin’s New Shepherd program was carried out by a team of 6 crew members, which also included Indian entrepreneur and pilot Gopichand Tothakura. Gopichand thus became the second Indian in history to go to space. Rakesh Sharma’s name is recorded as the first Indian to go to space, who achieved this record in 1984 in the Russian aircraft Soyuz T-11.

Who is Gopichand?

Gopichand is a resident of Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh. He has become the second citizen of India and the first civilian Indian to go to space. Gopichand is the co-founder of Preserve Life Corporation. Preserve Life Corporation is a holistic wellness and applied health center located near Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

These people also took flight

Others involved in this mission with him were former US Air Force pilot Ed Dwight, Mason Angel, founder of venture capital firm Industrious Ventures, Sylviane Chiron, founder of French craft brewery Brasserie Mont Blanc, software engineer Kenneth Hees and retired public accountant Carol Schaller.

Bezos’ focus on space tourism

Jeff Bezos’s company Blue Origin was started in 2000. The focus of this company is on space tourism. The company competes with companies like Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic. Space tourism takes crew members across the Kármán line, which is considered the boundary between the Earth’s atmosphere and outer space.
