Share Market Opening 18 May: To test the alternative arrangements prepared for disaster management, the open market made a good start with special trading on Saturday also. As soon as the special session started, the Sensex maintained its strength and crossed the 74 thousand mark.
This is how the special session started
Before the market opened, Gift Nifty was indicating the special session to be green with a premium of about 50 points (0.20 percent). In the pre-open session, both the major indices BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty remained in the green zone. Nifty50 was about 110 points stronger in pre-open. After the market opened, in the initial session at 9.20 am, the Sensex was trading near 74,050 points with a gain of more than 125 points. The Nifty 50 index had crossed 22,500 points with a gain of more than 100 points.
Such a surge came on Friday
Earlier on Friday, May 17, there was a rise in the stock market. BSE Sensex strengthened by 253.31 points or 0.34 percent and closed at 73,917.03 points. At the same time, NSE’s Nifty50 index was at 22,466.10 points with a gain of 62.25 points or 0.28 percent.
This week has been a rally
If we look at the situation of global markets, this week has proved to be excellent. In the trading on the last day of the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average managed to cross 40 thousand points for the first time. This index remained up by 0.34 percent. The S&P 500 rose marginally by 0.12 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite Index suffered a slight loss of 0.07 percent. During the entire week, Dow Jones gained 1.24 percent, S&P 500 gained 1.54 percent and Nasdaq gained 2.11 percent.
Special business in two sessions
This is not the first time that trading is taking place in the market on Saturday. This has happened twice already this year, when a special session was organized in the market on Saturday for testing the disaster recovery site. In today’s special trading, the market will open in 2 sessions. The first session is from 9:15 to 10 and the second session is from 11:30 to 12:30.
In today’s trading, a circuit of 5 percent has been kept for all securities. Most of the big stocks are seen in profit in the initial session. Shares like Nestle and Power Grid are in profit of about 1 per cent each, while JSW Steel is in loss of more than 1 per cent.
