Maruti Suzuki is gearing up to launch several new models, including various SUVs, hybrids, and electric cars. According to media reports, the company is developing its own strong hybrid technology, which could be seen in small cars like the WagonR, Baleno, Swift Twins, and Brezza, making it the first of its kind in India.

Maruti’s Plans for the Facelifted Crossovers

The possibility of launching the new Maruti WagonR facelift in the Indian market sometime in 2025 is being considered. It is believed that the facelifted WagonR may feature the company’s own hybrid technology (codenamed HEV), potentially competing favorably with Toyota’s series-parallel hybrid technology, offering considerable affordability. This move could also assist in keeping the vehicle’s price lower.

Hybrid Technology by Maruti Suzuki

Maruti’s hybrid technology may involve powering the electric motor through either a petrol generator or a battery. The vehicle’s computer will determine how much power is drawn from the battery or the generator. Depending on the need, the system can utilize the battery pack entirely to power the motor, reducing engine usage and potentially providing higher mileage.

Engine Specifications and Future Models

The upcoming Maruti WagonR facelift might come with a new 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine, which could also be used in the 2024 New-gen Swift Hatchback. Additionally, Maruti Suzuki is also working on the next-generation Baleno Hatchback, expected to be launched in 2026.

Platform and Shared Hybrid Powertrain

The new model might be based on the revised HEARTECT platform, which is expected to support hybrid technology. The next-generation Baleno Hatchback could potentially share the (anticipated) strong hybrid powertrain of the facelifted WagonR.

Future Launches

Maruti Suzuki is set to launch the new generation Swift and Dzire sub-4 meter sedans in the coming months. Additionally, the company might launch a new MPV based on the Spacia in 2026, along with an all-new electric SUV based on the Suzuki eVX concept in the same year.
