BJP Ramps Up Efforts for Lok Sabha Elections: A Close-Up on 'Mission 80' in Uttar Pradesh

As the Lok Sabha elections are just around the corner, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has intensified its preparations, focusing primarily on Uttar Pradesh (UP), a key state with the highest number of 80 seats. Political analysts often say that the path to Delhi’s throne goes through UP, a notion that BJP has taken to heart in their latest campaign, aptly named ‘Mission 80’.

The Strategic Moves in BJP’s ‘Mission 80’

A Significant Meeting Paves the Way

A crucial meeting held on a recent Thursday marked a significant step in BJP’s strategy for ‘Mission 80’. Key figures such as General Secretary Vinod Tawde, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, UP BJP President Bhupendra Choudhary, Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya, and Brajesh Pathak, along with other prominent leaders, were present. This gathering focused on the election preparations, including a discussion on the Ram Temple’s consecration.

Engaging the Grassroots

Importantly, the meeting also included leaders working at the grassroots level. Their involvement and the reports they brought were crucial in shaping the party’s strategy.

BJP’s Outreach to New Voters

The Campaign to Connect

Starting January 24th, BJP will launch a campaign to connect with new voters. This initiative will see Prime Minister Narendra Modi joining virtually. Yogi Adityanath, determined to secure a third term for Modi, has geared up for a vigorous campaign throughout UP.

Targeting a Higher Vote Percentage

In the past two elections, BJP enjoyed considerable success in UP, securing a significant number of seats and votes. In the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP alliance won 73 seats, and even though the number decreased to 64 in 2019, the vote percentage increased. From 42.63% in 2014, it rose to 49.56% in 2019, despite the opposition’s alliance. This time, BJP has set an ambitious target of exceeding 50% of the vote share.

The Strategy for New Voter Engagement

The ‘New Voter’ Conferences

To captivate new voters, BJP plans to hold ‘New Voter’ conferences in all the assembly constituencies of UP on January 24th. These events will also feature Prime Minister Modi virtually. Additionally, the party has formed a 55-member strategy committee to oversee the election preparations.

BJP’s Calculated Risks with New Candidates

Understanding the complex socio-political landscape of UP, BJP recognizes that winning all 80 seats is a challenging task. The party is ready to make bold decisions, including changing candidates in 25-30% of the seats, based on extensive surveys and party assessments. Long ago, BJP had strategically deployed ‘migrant workers’ from other Lok Sabha constituencies to each seat in UP, whose reports are now proving invaluable.

The Opposition’s Dilemma

While BJP is fully engaged in preparations, the opposition is entangled in the complexities of seat distribution. Uncertainty prevails over how many seats each party will contest. Akhilesh Yadav, the prominent face of the opposition in UP, is hopeful for a quick resolution.
