The National Commission for Women (NCW) has formally urged the Election Commission to take action against Supriya for her derogatory conduct towards Kangana Ranaut and H.S. Ahir. Terming such behavior intolerable and against the dignity of women, NCW’s Chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to the EC, demanding immediate and stringent action. It all unfolded when Supriya Shrinet, the chairperson of Congress’ social media and digital platforms, took a direct swipe at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday, March 25th. Her handle targeted Kangana Ranaut, who emerged as BJP’s candidate from Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, posting an obscene image and making derogatory comments. The post went viral rapidly, sparking intense backlash against Supriya Shrinet and the Congress. After facing severe trolling, the post was eventually removed from the Congress leader’s account.

Supriya Shrinet’s Clarification: Addressing the Allegations

In her defense, Supriya Shrinet clarified, stating that her official accounts (Facebook and Instagram) were accessed by someone else, who posted highly inappropriate and offensive content. However, the said post has been deleted. She asserts that those who know her personally would understand that she could never make such remarks against any woman.

Kangana Ranaut’s Response

Responding to Supriya Shrinet’s post, Kangana Ranaut took to Twitter, expressing, “Dear Supriya Ji, as an artist, over the past 20 years of my career, I have portrayed roles of all kinds of women. From a simple girl in ‘Queen’ to an intriguing spy in ‘Dhaakad,’ from a goddess in ‘Manikarnika’ to a demon in ‘Chandramukhi,’ from a prostitute in ‘Rangoon’ to a revolutionary leader in ‘Thalaivii.’ We should free our daughters from the shackles of preconceptions. We should rise above curiosity about their bodies. Above all, we must refrain from using the challenging lives or circumstances of sex workers as a form of insult or degradation. Every woman deserves respect.”
