Controversy Surrounding Ram Temple Inauguration Sparks Debate in Parliament

The recent discussion in the parliamentary budget session on Saturday, February 10, regarding the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has sparked heated debates among members. Participating in the discussion, AIMIM president and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi emphasized the repeated calls for proving loyalty to the country from Muslims. He questioned, “Am I a spokesperson for Babar, Jinnah, or Aurangzeb?”

Ram Temple Inauguration: Unity or Division?

During his address in the house, MP Owaisi raised concerns about whether the Modi government serves only one community and religion. He questioned the significance of the January 22 ceremony celebrating the consecration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya and whether it was a triumph of one religion over another. Owaisi further highlighted the irony of revering Lord Ram while harboring animosity towards Nathuram Godse, the individual whose final words were “Hey Ram.”

Governments Come and Go

Asserting that governments are transient entities, Owaisi criticized the Modi government for celebrating the events of December 6. The Chairperson presiding over the session, Rajendra Agrawal, responded to Owaisi’s remarks, clarifying that the events of December 6 were not a celebration but rather a ceremony marking the inauguration of the Ram Temple.

Historical Context: Mandir-Masjid Debate

In response to Owaisi’s statements, the Chairperson acknowledged his legal expertise and reminded him that both the ASI and the Supreme Court had affirmed the existence of a temple upon which a mosque was constructed.

Debating Babar’s Legacy

As Owaisi mentioned Babar, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey promptly rose from his seat, questioning Owaisi’s stance on Babar’s actions. Owaisi retorted, asking Dubey to first clarify his stance on Pushyamitra Shunga, who had an army to demolish temples. Owaisi highlighted the repetitive questioning about Babar, implying a selective focus on historical figures.
